Regional Weather: Southeast / mid-Atlantic U.S.

Showers part of the Southeast; dry elsewhere. High pressure is wedging down the Eastern Seaboard behind the late-week cold front which has stalled over the far South. Cooler, drier air will govern the mid-Atlantic states plus SC and sections of GA. Showers and storms are possible along and south of the stationary front. Tropical Storm Chris has formed off the southern NC coast. He wobbles in place the next 2 days. Clouds and some showers in far eastern NC are the impacts. Highs in the 80s and 90s, lows in the 60s and 70s, with a warming trend.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread likely in the lower Southeast. Transport events move mainly near the sources. A variety of conditions is expected in the Southeast. Events out of SC and the mid-Atlantic are surrounded by unfavorable conditions.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Sunday, July 8

HIGH Risk for far southwestern GA, southeast AL, and the FL panhandle. Moderate Risk to cucurbits in central AL, and most of southwest GA. Low risk for most of northern and central FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits elsewhere.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Monday, July 9

HIGH Risk for far southwest GA, far southeastern AL, the eastern FL panhandle and nearby northern FL. Moderate Risk for cucurbits in southeast and east-central AL, and in central GA. Low Risk in far southeast GA and most of central and northern FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Regional Weather: Southeast / mid-Atlantic U.S.

Cold front ushers in a good chance of rain and cooler temperatures (for some). The midweek cold front in the Midwest reached the mountains on schedule last night. Accompanied by clouds and numerous showers, it will push through the mid-Atlantic today and tonight and settle east-west across the southern states on Saturday. After the frontal passage, the mid-Atlantic states except for NC will be sunny to partly cloudy and dry. The Southeast and NC will have clouds and a chance of showers. Highs in the 80s and 90s, lows in the 60s and 70s. Much cooler Saturday in the mid-Atlantic.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread likely in the Southeast. Conditions during the various transport events are mixed to favorable for survivable transport and deposition. Transport outside of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic regions does not appear to be an issue, though the favorable conditions in the Southeast will encourage further epidemic spread in those states.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Friday, July 6

Transport events track near-source and east to northeast. HIGH Risk for southern GA, northern FL, and the eastern panhandle. Moderate Risk to cucurbits in the western panhandle, the southeast 1/2 of AL, central GA, central and eastern SC, east-central and eastern NC, southeast VA, eastern MD, DE, far southeast PA, and southern NJ. Low risk for central FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits elsewhere.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Saturday, July 7

HIGH Risk for southeast AL, the eastern FL panhandle, southern GA, and central and eastern SC. Moderate Risk for cucurbits in eastern NC. Low Risk in northern and central FL. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Regional Weather: Southeast / mid-Atlantic U.S.

Hot with scattered showers. High pressure centered offshore is in control of the weather. Humidities are high; skies are sunny to partly cloudy. Afternoon / evening showers or storms are a possibility each day, moreso Wednesday and Thursday. The chance of rain is greater toward the lower Southeast. Some of the lower mid-Atlantic and the interior Southeast may remain dry. Highs in the 90s, lows in the 70s. Slight cooling trend by Thursday.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread probable in parts of the South. Due to the position of the weather features, wind flows generally from the east / southeast are causing most transport events to run near-source and toward the west. Conditions during most events will be slightly favorable to mixed. Enhanced clouds and precipitation chances on Saturday near the Gulf Coast will elevate risks.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Tuesday, July 3

Moderate Risk to cucurbits in the FL panhandle, southern AL, and southern GA. Low risk for eastern GA, SC except the northeast, southern NJ, northern DE, northeast MD, and southeast PA. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Wednesday, July 4

HIGH Risk for southern GA, the FL panhandle, far southern AL, southern MS, and southeast LA. Moderate Risk for cucurbits in central MS, northern and central AL, northern and central GA, and all but far northern SC. Low Risk in central and northern FL, far northern SC, NC, southwest NJ, and eastern PA. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Risk prediction map for Day 3: Thursday, July 5

Moderate Risk for cucurbits in southeast MS, southern AL, the FL panhandle, southern GA, central and eastern SC, and far southeast NC. Low Risk in central and northern FL, east-central MS, central and northern AL, northern GA, western SC, NC except the far southeast, extreme southern VA, southwest NJ, northern DE, and eastern PA. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Regional Weather: Southeast / mid-Atlantic U.S.

Continued hot; showers Southeast; mostly dry mid-Atlantic. High pressure governs the weather in the eastern U.S., with a hot, sticky air mass present. Numerous showers will occur along the Gulf Coast and in parts of GA / AL. Scattered shower activity is expected elsewhere in the Southeast and in the mountains, the latter due to a cold front approaching from the west. Mostly dry in the mid-Atlantic. Highs in the 90s, lows well into the 70s.

OUTLOOK:

Overview: Epidemic spread likely in parts of the Southeast. Transport events track near-source and north to northwest each day. Conditions will be most favorable in the Southeast, where earlier daily cloudiness and a greater chance of showers are in place. Transport and deposition from the mid-Atlantic states are squelched.

Risk prediction map for Day 1: Sunday, July 1

HIGH Risk for central and northern FL, the eastern panhandle, southern and western GA, and a broad area of central and southeast AL. Moderate Risk to cucurbits in SC, parts of the border counties of southeast NC, and eastern GA. Low risk for far northeast AL, far northern GA, southeast TN, and southwest NC. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.

Risk prediction map for Day 2: Monday, July 2

HIGH Risk for west-central FL, and AL except the southwest. Moderate Risk for cucurbits in western GA. Low Risk in most of SC. Minimal Risk to cucurbits otherwise.
